Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is no stranger to success at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. As a talented, wide-eyed 16-year-old back in 2016, she dazzled the crowd at the original Hayward Field by finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles, setting a world junior record of 54.15 seconds en route to earning a spot on Team USA and a chance to compete in the Rio Olympics. She advanced to the semifinals, but the world knew she’d be coming strong next time around.

When Does Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Race? Prefontaine Classic 2025
Typically a hurdler, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will be running the 400M at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on July 5. Though it is not a Diamond League event, interpretation it won't count towards standings, the event is still very highly-anticipated.
McLaughlin-Levrone holds the world tape in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 50.37 and earlier this season ran a 49.69 in the 400M. She ranks ninth in the planet in the 400M, but is looking to improve on that time with a win in Eugene.

U.S. hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has already accomplished nearly everything there is to achieve in the 400m hurdles. With two Olympic gold medals, a world championship title and six world records to her name, the 25-year-old is now ready to take on a new challenge: the women’s 400m.
According to Citius Mag, McLaughlin-Levrone has decided to compete only in the 400m at the upcoming U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships between July 31 and Aug. 3—confirming that she will forgo the 400m hurdles at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
McLaughlin-Levrone owns a personal best of 48.74 seconds, which she ran at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships—the last time she opted to skip the hurdles to focus on the flat 400m. Her time makes her the second-fastest U.S. woman in history, just behind Sanya Richards-Ross’s American record of 48.70.
Since 2023, only three women worldwide have run faster than McLaughlin-Levrone: reigning Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino (48.17), Burundi’s Salwa Eid Naser (48.53), and Jamaica’s Nickisha Pryce (48.57).

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to race in "special" 200m/400m races in Brussels
The world 400m hurdles record-holder and multiple Olympic champion won't be part of the main Diamond League programme but will end her season in the Belgian capital
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will race over both the 200m and 400m in Brussels but she won't be involved in the main Diamond League programme itself.
Memorial Van Damme meet organisers have added "two special races" to their schedule so that they can "honour Sydney's remarkable achievements, including her unforgettable 400m hurdles world record in Paris".
Those 400m and 200m events will occur on September 13 and September 14 respectively.
Earlier this week, the Brussels Diamond League announced that McLaughlin-Levrone was competing in the Belgian capital.
However, the meet wasn't explicit on whether she would be involved in the pre-Diamond League events or the main programme itself.
For the 25-year-old to have received a global wild card for the main programme, rules stipulated that she had to take part in a Diamond League race this season.

Brussels Diamond League Adds 200m/400m Races Outside Final Program For Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone To Race
400m hurdles world record holder and Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was announced as part of the 200m and 400m fields for the upcoming Brussels Diamond League on Sept. 13th and 14th. However, the Diamond League clarified that she will not be allowed to race in the circuit’s final since she has not qualified.
