From Wednesday July 2 to Monday July 14, Cloud Imperium Games is running the Luminary Citizen Foundation Festival. This annual event is focused on bringing new players into the game's fictional universe, as more experienced members of the community reach together to help anyone playing for the first time.
As a part of this year's Foundation Festival, CIG is also running another Free Fly period. During this time, you fetch free access to the game alongside the chance to pilot eight distinct ships and vehicles. Typically, to play SC you need to purchase a starter pack to gain access, but Free Fly is designed to give you a taste at no cost. It's one of the best space games you can play today, and this limited-time event gives you the chance to try it.

Star Citizen was free to play during the recent Ship Showdown event, August 26th to September 2nd, 2025. Preparing for the next Free Fly event is easy - simply create an account to instantly receive 50k in-game credits and follow the steps below once the next free fly is live!
If you've created an account in the past, but have not purchased a starter pack, I recommend creating a brand new account. As of July 2, 2025, at 12:00PM Eastern, new accounts that sign up using a referral code receive 50k in-game credits, 10x more than what was offered in the past. What is Free Fly?
What is Free Fly? Free Fly is a period of free access to the Star Citizen universe during which you can explore the game universe for free without needing a starter pack to access the game. You will be loaned one or more ships for the duration of the event so you can travel and enjoy the Verse to the fullest.
Currently, no Free Fly events are scheduled or active.
How to access to Star Citizen Alpha?
Access to Star Citizen Alpha does not require any subscription, you just need to create an account on the STAR-QP2M-YLS3" target="_blank" rel="external noopener noreferrer">Roberts Space Industries website and to have a Starter Pack, including access to the game and your first ship.
When you create your account on the Roberts Space Industries website, you will be asked for a "referral code", specifying one will allow you to benefit from a 50,000 UEC bonus in-game. Do not hesitate to specify one now because once the account is created it will not be possible anymore.
