About these events…
Dekalb County began hosting these food distribution events in May of 2020, during the early days of the pandemic, using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan.
The events are held on a irregular basis and are not announced until just a few days ahead of time, making it hard to predict when the next one will be. Dekalb County has never released an annual schedule for its food distributions.
What we do know is that they often take place around the middle of the month (but not every month) and are always h
Our Community Food Centers (CFCs) are direct-to-families food pantries operated by the Atlanta Community Food Bank and its volunteers. We establish CFCs in communities where local resources are insufficient to meet the needs of families living with food insecurity. CFCs will become an integral part of our extensive network of nonprofit partner agencies serving local communities. See our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
Appointments are required at all Community Food Centers.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA— DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond’s final food distribution is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 23. Thurmond, restricted by term limits, retires from the office of DeKalb CEO in December, after serving 8 years in the county government’s top position. Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, who served as the DeKalb Board of Commissioners Super District representative, was elected to win Thurmond on Nov. 5.
Since May 2020—the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic—more than 170,000 boxes of food have been distributed at more than 40 distribution events.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the Board of Commissioners, faith leaders, and community volunteers to help fight food insecurity in DeKalb County,” Thurmond said. “The most important four-letter word in the English language is ‘care,’ and I believe that over the past four years, we have faithfully cared for our fellow residents who have been fighting to feed their families.
