Four boxers advanced to the quarterfinals - Saken Bibossinov (51 kg), Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay (63.5 kg), Nurbek Oralbay (80 kg) and Aibek Oralbay (92 kg).
As for women boxers, Nazym Kyzaibay (50 kg) is in the Round of 16, while Karina Ibragimova (57 kg) has not competed yet.

Panama overcame the defeat of boxer Atheyna Bylon in Paris 2024 and proudly celebrated the first Olympic medal ever won by a Panamanian woman, a silver achieved in a sport that has produced over thirty world champions for the state. Bylon, a police officer, clueless to China’s Li Qian by split decision (4-1) in the heavyweight final (-75 kg). “You have given us great national pride. Panama united and celebrating!!” wrote Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on X.
Hundreds of people, waving national flags, watched the fight at Urracá Park, in front of the capital’s bay, where the mayor’s office installed a giant screen. Hundreds more gathered in other cities, and the entire country followed the match on television. “I touch great joy because Atheyna’s medal shows that when a girl empowers herself, she can reach whatever goals she sets,” said Silvia Mela, a 52-year-old police officer who attended the park wearing a T-shirt with the boxer’s image.

Panama’s boxing legend, Roberto Duran, arrives at the Olympic Training Center to support his compatriot, Atheyna Bylon.
The second day of the Santiago 2023 boxing tournament was headlined by women’s boxing and the match featuring Cuban fighter Julio Cesar La Cruz. Meanwhile, the five-time professional boxing world champion, Roberto Duran, was present at the Olympic Training Center in Ñuñoa to offer his support to Panama’s boxer, Atheyna Bylon.
After her victory against Eyed George from Colombia, Atheyna Bylon explained what “Mano de Piedra” (Stone Hands) means to her and her country: “He is the greatest idol we have in Panama. All Panamanians are extremely proud of him. Every boxer aspires to reach where Roberto Duran has. I’m super happy that he’s here,” she stated.
She also added, “It’s really great that he’s here, he’s our idol. I get along very well with him and his family. So, I really felt comfortable.”
