Valentina Khalzova, born 1997, is a native of Astana. She is a gold medalist of the 2016 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships.

Earlier, Makhmud Sabyrkhan (57 kg), Aslanbek Shymbergenov and Kamshybek Kunkabayev (+92 kg), who were believed to be the medal contenders in their weight categories, were eliminated at the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics Games in Paris.

Four boxers advanced to the quarterfinals -  Saken Bibossinov (51 kg), Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay (63.5 kg), Nurbek Oralbay (80 kg) and Aibek Oralbay (92 kg).  

As for women boxers,  Nazym Kyzaibay (50 kg) is in the Round of 16, while Karina Ibragimova (57 kg) has not competed yet.

In an exciting and close fight at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Atheyna Bylon, a student of the Bachelor of Physical Education and Personal Training at UMECIT, has achieved a historic silver medal in the -75 kilo category of women's boxing. Atheyna faced the experienced Chinese boxer Li Qian, who took the gold on this occasion, but not before starring in one of the most intense finals of the tournament.

At 35 years old, Bylon has established herself as one of Panama's most outstanding athletes, making history by becoming the first Panamanian woman to win an Olympic medal. This achievement adds to her impressive career, which includes participation in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, as well as multiple titles in international competitions.

A fight full of courage and determination

Atheyna’s path to this silver medal was a reflection of her tenacity and dedication. After beating strong competitors in the previous rounds, Atheyna made it to the final to face Li Qian, who already had a silver from Tokyo 2020 and a bronze from Rio 2016.
